Capitolar Museum of Atri

The Capitolar Museum spans ten exhibition rooms within a former Benedictine monastery, displaying religious artworks, archaeological artifacts, and manuscripts from different periods.

Founded in 1912 by Monsignor Raffaele Tini, the museum occupies the upper floors of a 12th-century monastery that later served as residence for cathedral canons.

The collections include 13th-century manuscripts, a 15th-century altar screen of Saint James, and a terracotta Madonna with Child by Luca della Robbia from 1470.

The museum receives an average of 3,000 visitors annually and provides wheelchair accessibility, educational workshops, and a specialized bookstore for visitors.

Through glass panels in the floor, visitors can observe original Roman bath mosaics beneath the adjacent cathedral, connecting ancient and medieval heritage.
