Cerrano Tower, Coastal tower in Pineto, Italy
Cerrano Tower stands on a small hill near the beach between Silvi and Pineto along the Adriatic coast, surrounded by tall pine trees. The structure has thick brick walls that narrow toward the top and features corbels and battlements typical of 16th-century coastal defense buildings.
The tower was built in 1568 on the ruins of a 13th-century fortification. It served as part of the Aragonese kingdom's coastal defense system in the Kingdom of Naples, protecting the shore from seaborne attacks.
The name comes from a local family that once lived in the area. Visitors can still see how the thick brick structure and its design reflect the way people built defenses and lived along the coast during the Renaissance.
The tower now houses a visitor center for the Protected Marine Area, where you can learn about coastal wildlife and marine ecosystems. Paths lead up to the tower, and from there you can explore the surrounding pine forest and nearby beaches on foot.
The area around the tower features mountain biking trails of varying difficulty that wind through the surrounding forest and toward the coast. These routes connect the location to broader cycling networks linking Pineto with neighboring towns.
