Rocca Borromeo di Angera, Medieval fortress in Angera, Italy.

Rocca Borromeo di Angera is a medieval fortress perched on a limestone cliff above Lake Maggiore, enclosed by four distinct structures surrounding an internal courtyard. The site spreads across multiple levels with medieval gardens, defensive walls, and historic rooms throughout.

The fortress was built in medieval times and came under Visconti control following a victory in 1277, serving as a center of power. In 1449 the Borromeo family acquired it and made it their seat.

The Hall of Justice displays medieval frescoes showing a battle victory that reflects the power struggles of the time. These wall paintings tell the story of the conflicts that shaped the region.

All areas of the fortress are accessible with a single admission ticket, which covers the gardens and museum rooms throughout the site. Wearing comfortable shoes is advisable, as the location features multiple staircases and uneven pathways.

The fortress houses one of Europe's largest doll collections with over 1000 pieces, primarily dating from the 18th century onward. This surprising collection was established in 1988 and displays the craftsmanship and fashion of different eras.
