Rocca di Bagnara, Medieval fortress in Bagnara di Romagna, Italy
Rocca di Bagnara is a square brick fortress with a sturdy tower anchoring one corner and defensive towers positioned around its walls. A two-story palace building occupies the north side, creating the residential quarters of the castle complex.
The fortress was built in the 15th century on the foundations of an older castle that once stood on this site. It took its present shape through major reconstruction work carried out between 1482 and 1494 under two powerful commanders.
The fortress now serves as a museum where visitors discover how the settlement developed and what made this place important to the region. Walking through its rooms gives a sense of daily life in this fortified community over centuries.
The fortress is located in the old town center at Piazza IV Novembre and is easy to reach on foot. Parking areas are available nearby for those who need them, and the buildings have been made accessible for visitors with mobility needs.
This fortress is one of the few structures of its type in Emilia Romagna that remains almost complete from its medieval origins. Below ground level, the main tower contains three levels of reinforced chambers that reveal how defenders once sheltered within these walls.
