Monte Forte, Mountain peak in Sassari, Italy
Monte Forte is a mountain peak in the Nurra region that rises about 464 meters above sea level. Its slopes and summit are covered with Mediterranean plants including holm oaks and strawberry trees spread across the rocky terrain.
The summit holds remains of an ancient castle called Monteforte, with foundation traces still visible from past settlements. These ruins show how people once chose this elevated location for protection and control of the surrounding area.
Local communities in the area maintain traditional ways of living in settlements around the mountain. The landscape shows how people have shaped this territory through generations of work and residence.
The mountain can be reached via Provincial Road 18, which connects the area to larger towns and provides access to hiking trails. Visit during dry weather to make the climb easier and enjoy better views from the summit.
From June to October, a regional fire prevention team operates a lookout station at the peak. They keep watch over the landscape from the Gulf of Asinara all the way to the Alghero plain below.
