Dead Sea Museum, Natural history museum in Ma'in, Jordan
The Dead Sea Museum is a natural history museum in Ma'in, western Jordan, set on a hill overlooking the Dead Sea. Its exhibits are organized into four sections covering the formation of the basin, the surrounding ecosystem, the history of human use, and the ongoing decline of the sea's water level.
The museum was built with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency and opened in 2006 to help visitors understand the story of the Dead Sea. It later developed into its current form as a full exhibition site open to the public.
The museum is close to the Ma'in resort area and easy to reach by car. Visitors who plan to explore the outdoor terrace or the nearby Zara Cliff trail should wear sturdy shoes, as the ground can be uneven near the edges.
Although the Dead Sea is known for having almost no life in its waters, the museum's exhibits show that the springs, wetlands, and highlands nearby support a wide range of living things. On a clear day, the outdoor terrace offers a view of both the Jordanian and Israeli shores at the same time.
