Takarazuka Kofun

The Takarazuka Kofun features a keyhole-shaped design with a rectangular front section connected to a circular back portion, measuring 111 meters in length.

Constructed in the early 5th century AD, this burial site was designated as a National Historic Site of Japan in 1932 and underwent excavations by Mie University in 1928.

The mound contains numerous haniwa, terracotta clay figures depicting humans, animals, and buildings, which provide information about ancient Japanese funeral practices.

The site is accessible to visitors through the Takarazuka Kofun Park, established in 2005, where two preserved tumuli showcase the architectural features of ancient Japanese tombs.

Ground penetrating radar studies revealed a hidden burial chamber approximately seven meters long beneath the surface, suggesting multiple internal chambers within the structure.
