Izumo-Hinomisaki Lighthouse

The white stone lighthouse stands at a height of 43.65 meters on the western end of Shimane Peninsula, making it the tallest stone lighthouse in Japan.

Built in 1903 using high-quality stones from Moriyama in Shimane Prefecture, the lighthouse features a distinctive double-wall construction with brick interior and stone exterior walls.

The lighthouse received recognition as one of the 100 Historic Lighthouses of the World in 1998 and gained status as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 2022.

Visitors can climb 163 spiral steps to reach the observation deck, with admission hours from 9:00 to 17:00 during March through September and 9:00 to 16:30 from October to February.

The lighthouse beam generates 480,000 candelas of light intensity, reaching approximately 40 kilometers into the Sea of Japan to guide maritime navigation.
