Mount Kōno

Mount Kōno is a 341-meter summit in Osaka Prefecture featuring multiple hiking trails that wind through dense forest and natural streams. The various routes connect different parts of the landscape and pass by temples along the way.

From the 7th century onward, the mountain served as an important site for Shugendo practitioners, where mountain ascetics called Yamabushi conducted their spiritual training. These traditions shaped the mountain's role in the region over time.

The mountain has long been a place where Buddhist practitioners gathered, and visitors today still encounter temples and sacred sites along the paths. The traditions connected to these locations shape how people experience walking through the landscape.

The mountain is accessible by public transportation from central Osaka, with a ropeway that connects to marked hiking paths. The trails are reasonably accessible for different fitness levels.

Stone pillars line the trails, placed by temple supporters who earned this honor through multiple recorded climbs of the mountain. Each pillar tells a story of personal dedication to this sacred place.
