Palazzo del Giardino

The Palazzo del Giardino extends over two floors with a white plastered facade and carved oak cornices decorated with lion head corbels.

Duke Vespasiano Gonzaga commissioned the construction of this private retreat between 1578 and 1587 upon returning from his duties in Spain.

The interior chambers feature extensive frescoes by Bernardino Campi, depicting mythological scenes, Roman life, and classical narratives across multiple decorated rooms.

Visitors can access the noble floor through a marble staircase and explore various chambers, including the Mirror Hall and the Chamber of Caesars.

The palazzo connects to the Galleria degli Antichi through an archway and originally included a trapezoidal garden with fountains and hydraulic features.
