清光寺

Seikonji sits nestled among mountains and forests, featuring traditional wooden buildings connected by stone pathways that wind through quiet garden spaces. The structures have dark timber frames and steeply pitched roofs typical of Buddhist temples in this region.

The temple was established during early phases of Buddhism in Japan and evolved through centuries of rebuilding and repairs. Over this long period, it became an important place for religious practice in the Yamanashi region.

Monks conduct daily rituals at the site, and visitors sometimes encounter morning prayers or meditation practice in progress. The temple bell rings at set times, marking the rhythm of the day for those who visit or live nearby.

The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset, accessible by local bus from Hokuto Station at the foot of the path. Wear sturdy shoes since accessing the buildings involves climbing stairs and walking over uneven surfaces.

Prayer halls within the compound are positioned according to traditional Buddhist principles, with each one oriented toward a different cardinal direction. This arrangement follows ancient teachings about spatial harmony and energy balance.
