Tokyo Gate Bridge, Cantilever truss bridge in Kōtō-ku, Japan.
Tokyo Gate Bridge is a cantilever steel truss structure in Kōtō-ku that extends 2618 meters across the bay, offering four traffic lanes and a pedestrian walkway. The structure rises 87.8 meters above the water.
After completion in February 2012, the structure received the Tanaka Prize from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers. Its opening marked an important step in the development of the capital's transport infrastructure.
Local residents call the structure Dinosaur Bridge because the shape of the truss framework resembles two creatures facing each other. This playful name has taken root in the region and is now widely used.
The crossing maintains its height at 87.8 meters to allow ship passage while staying within the 98-meter limit required by nearby Haneda Airport. Pedestrians can use the walkway to cross the bay and take in the views.
The connection runs from Wakasu district to Jonanjima Seaside Park, offering views across the bay toward the Bōsō Peninsula. On clear days visitors from the walkway can see out toward the coastline.
