Okonomi-mura

Okonomi-mura is a four-story building in the Shintenchi neighborhood housing 25 restaurants that each focus on okonomiyaki. Every establishment develops its own recipe and combination of ingredients.

The concept grew from street food stands in post-war 1950s Hiroshima and evolved into a formal culinary destination. The building itself opened in December 1965, creating a permanent home for this food tradition.

Here you can watch okonomiyaki being prepared in the Hiroshima style, where ingredients are layered on top of each other rather than mixed together. This approach to cooking is the signature of the local food tradition and sets it apart from other regions.

The building sits within 400 meters of three major transit stations, making it easy to reach from different parts of the city. Many restaurants offer English menus to help visitors understand their options.

The restaurants here use a special okonomiyaki sauce made exclusively for this location by Sun Foods. This exclusive sauce gives all the dishes served here their distinctive flavor.
