Sugu-Okamoto Site, Archaeological site in Kasuga, Japan

The Sugu-Okamoto archaeological site extends across northern Kasuga Hills, covering an area of 2 kilometers north-south and 1 kilometer east-west.

Designated as a National Historic Site in 1986, this location contains remains from the Yayoi period and functioned as the central area of the ancient Nu Kingdom.

The site features multiple burial grounds with 116 jar coffins, wooden coffins, and ritual structures that demonstrate ancient Japanese burial practices.

Visitors can access the site through the Nara National Museum, located near Zashonokuma Station and Ijiri Station, with a 25-minute walk from either location.

The site includes a massive stone weighing 4 tons, measuring 3.3 meters in length and 1.8 meters in width, which once covered a royal burial jar.
