Koiji Beach

Koiji Beach is a white sand beach in Tahara stretching about one kilometer along the Pacific Ocean with clear waters. A coastal promenade runs alongside the shore and provides access to the waterfront.

The name comes from an Edo period legend about noble people who sought refuge here after fleeing a forbidden relationship. This story has been preserved in the area's local identity for centuries.

The location inspired poet Toson Shimazaki to write a famous poem about a coconut drifting from distant shores, which became a symbol of connection and romance for readers.

Two free parking areas are available with restroom facilities and wheelchair access for visitor convenience. Several dining establishments near the shore serve local food specialties.

The beach earned four distinctions in Japan's top 100 selections, including recognition for its white pine trees and coastal landscape features. These honors reflect its special standing among the nation's beaches.
