Akiu Great Falls

Water plunges down a 55-meter vertical cliff, creating a narrow white cascade that measures 6 meters in width against dark stone formations.

The waterfall received official recognition as a Place of Scenic Beauty under Japanese preservation laws enacted during the early 20th century.

The falls form part of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls list and stand among the nation's three most notable water features alongside Kegon and Nachi.

Visitors can reach the base through a walking trail from Fudotaki Bridge, with the descent taking approximately 10 minutes from the observation platform.

During winter months, the waterfall partially freezes, forming natural ice sculptures while maintaining continuous water flow through central channels.
