Oude Kerk

The Oude Kerk in Rijswijk is a medieval church featuring three aisles, a choir section, and a western tower topped with a spire added in 1681. Built on an ancient dune, the structure displays characteristic elements of regional medieval hall church architecture.

The church origins trace back to the 15th century, with the tower constructed around 1300 and the main nave built between 1470 and 1525. This building sequence reflects the gradual development of Rijswijk as a local community.

The church displays furnishings from the 17th century and an organ built in 1786 by I. Reichner, who was laid to rest beneath his creation. These objects show how worship and community life were organized within the building over generations.

The church sits on Herenstraat in central Rijswijk with parking available nearby for visitors. Keep in mind that opening hours may be limited, so checking ahead before visiting is recommended.

Two bells cast by M. and C. Fremy in 1681 bear inscriptions, with the larger bell featuring Dutch text. For centuries these bells marked time for residents across the town.
