Onze Lieve Vrouw Ten Hemelopnemingkerk, Catholic pilgrimage church in Renkum, Netherlands

Onze Lieve Vrouw Ten Hemelopnemingkerk is a Catholic church in Renkum featuring a three-nave basilica design constructed with oak wood and a prominent cross-shaped floor plan. The building displays classical architectural elements with a commanding roof structure and symmetrical layout that mirrors its interior spatial divisions.

A chapel existed at this location from 1183 under the rule of the Duke of Gelre, establishing the site as a place of worship for centuries. The present building was completed in 1922 by architect Joseph Cuypers, replacing the earlier structure with a modern basilica-style church.

The church serves as a gathering place for pilgrims from the surrounding region who come together to pray and celebrate religious occasions. Devotion to Mary shapes the religious life of the community and draws visitors who carry forward this tradition across generations.

The church is located at Utrechtseweg 153 and is accessible on foot, though it also sits near other points of interest in Renkum. Visitors should keep in mind that regular services take place, so checking ahead is wise to ensure a peaceful experience during your visit.

A polychrome wooden statue of Mary housed in the western side aisle dates back to medieval times and survived the Reformation intact. The artwork was hidden in Arnhem during the Reformation period and later returned to the church, where it remains an object of devotion today.
