Huisje van Uneken

The Huisje van Uneken is a former farmhouse in Zwartemeer with several closely connected rooms. The central living area with bedroom was compact, while separate sections housed livestock including cattle, goats, and a horse.

The house was built in 1944 and served as home to the Uneken family with ten children until 1967. After that, ownership passed to Staatsbosbeheer, a forestry organization that managed the land.

The house shows how farming families once lived and worked in very small spaces. The simple setup with peat stoves and oil lamps reflects the daily life that many people in this region experienced.

The site is best explored on foot, allowing visitors to grasp the confined spaces and how they were used. The surroundings feature a quiet woodland setting that enhances the experience.

Today the abandoned house shelters diverse wildlife, as insects, birds, and bats use its rooms as refuge. The place has become a haven for nature even though people left it long ago.
