Rotterdam main post office, Art Deco post office in Coolsingel, Netherlands.
Rotterdam main post office is a classical and Art Deco structure along Coolsingel featuring a richly decorated facade with ornamental details. A glass-domed roof crowns the entrance with a height of approximately 23 meters.
Architect Gustav Cornelis Bremer designed this building between 1915 and 1923 as a replacement for an earlier postal facility that had run out of space. The new structure was built to handle growing postal operations.
The building displays carved stone sculptures and decorative reliefs created by artist Joop van Lunteren that shape its appearance. These artistic details remain visible in the facade and reflect the craftsmanship embedded in the structure.
The building no longer operates as a post office and now hosts exhibitions and public events. Check in advance what activities are scheduled to plan your visit effectively.
The structure was intentionally positioned out of alignment with the neighboring City Hall, creating an entrance courtyard that housed various commercial shops over the decades. This deliberate misalignment formed an interesting transitional space between the two buildings.
