Groenestein, Protected mansion in Helpman neighborhood, Groningen, Netherlands
The two-story rectangular mansion features red brick facades, a hipped roof with black Frisian tiles, and classical pilasters marking its corners.
Lucas Alting established the original estate in 1685, while Onno Joost Quintus commissioned the current neoclassical structure's renovation in 1871.
The mansion interior preserves its nineteenth-century layout with marble flooring, sliding doors, ornate stucco ceilings, and traditional Dutch architectural elements.
Located at Groenesteinlaan 22, the mansion remains a private residence while its surrounding park offers public access for visitors.
The mansion contains masonry cross-ribbed vaults in its cellar, dating from the seventeenth century, making it the last preserved estate in Groningen.
