Huygensgebouw, Nijmegen, Science faculty building at Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands
The Huygensgebouw is a science building at Radboud University with four interconnected wings arranged around a central plaza. The structure spans multiple stories and houses laboratories, offices, and teaching spaces for different academic disciplines.
The building was constructed starting in 2002 on the site of the former Universal Laboratory and opened in 2007 by Queen Beatrix. This new facility represented a major expansion of the university's research infrastructure.
The building contains research facilities for natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science departments, continuing the Dutch tradition of scientific excellence.
The building offers convenient parking facilities and features underground passages connecting to other university buildings. Most areas are dedicated to research and teaching, so visitor access may be limited to certain zones and times.
The roof is topped with two optical telescopes, including a rare 1905 lens telescope designed by Maurice Manent. These instruments remain as important reminders of the university's early observational science heritage.
