Step bridge at Vøringsfossen waterfall, Observation deck and footbridge at Vøringsfossen waterfall, Norway
The step bridge at Vøringsfossen is a metal structure spanning 47 meters that connects several viewing platforms around the waterfall. The bridge consists of seven main components mounted on tripod structures and anchored deep into the rock.
The site was already known as a tourist destination, but this modern bridge only opened in 2020 to create safe access to viewpoints. The project grew from the need to bring visitors closer to the natural spectacle while ensuring safety.
The bridge shows how people in Norway connect nature and construction by making the place accessible without harming it. You see this philosophy everywhere: the structure follows the shape of the terrain and works with the rock rather than against it.
The bridge is accessible from two parking areas via marked paths and offers access to different levels around the waterfall. Restroom facilities are available seasonally, and the path requires sure footing and appropriate footwear.
The bridge hovers about 50 meters above the rushing rapids of the waterfall, giving visitors an unusual sense of closeness and height. This position allows for perspectives on the water and natural power not possible from regular trails.
