The Aquarium and Natural History Museum in Kraków displays fish, amphibians, reptiles, and land animals from around the world across about 1600 square meters of exhibition space. Around 130 exotic species are on view, ranging from colorful aquatic creatures to rare land animals.
The institution began in 1865 when Kazimierz Wodzicki donated his bird collection to the Scientific Society of Kraków. Public exhibitions opened in 1888, establishing the foundation for what became the museum today.
The collections reflect how animals adapt to their environments and the relationships between different species in nature. Visitors experience firsthand how creatures live together in various habitats around the world.
The museum is located in the Old Town and is easily accessible, with sections suitable for different age groups. Plan to spend about 2 to 3 hours to properly explore all the exhibits.
The museum displays a complete woolly rhinoceros specimen discovered in 1929 near Starunia. This rare find was preserved under special conditions and stands as one of the collection's most remarkable pieces.
