King Sigismund I initiated the construction of this arsenal in 1531 to store cannons captured during the Battle of Obertyn against Moldavia.
The arsenal now houses the Center for Polish Language and Culture in the World, contributing to international education at Jagiellonian University.

The structure incorporates elements of medieval city walls, featuring original 17th-century vaulted halls and a monumental portal from that period.
