Potocki Palace in Międzyrzec Podlaski, Rococo palace in Międzyrzec Podlaski, Poland.
Potocki Palace is a Rococo residence in Międzyrzec Podlaski featuring two stories with three projecting sections across its facade. The structure is richly adorned with sculptures depicting military themes and family emblems that showcase the craftsmanship of 18th century artisans.
The original building dates from the 15th century and underwent several transformations over time. The most significant work occurred between 1749 and 1759 when architect Jakub Fontana redesigned it in the Rococo style.
The sculptures on the facade depict classical themes and tell the story of the Potocki family's accomplishments. They offer insight into the artistic preferences of the 18th century and how the noble family chose to present itself through stone and decoration.
The exterior sculptures can be viewed from street level, making the architectural details of the facade easily accessible to observe. Plan time to look closely at the various decorative elements across the front.
The residence follows the French design principle of "entre cour et jardin," positioning the main building between a courtyard and garden spaces. This layout concept was typical of major French residences and reveals how French architectural influence shaped Polish noble estates.
