Kowea Itim le-Tora Synagogue, Orthodox synagogue in Kazimierz district, Kraków, Poland.
The Kowea Itim le-Tora Synagogue is a brick building at 42 Józefa Street with Hebrew inscriptions and two Stars of David on its facade. It now contains residential apartments while preserving the original architectural details from its construction period.
Construction began in 1810, followed by a major renovation in 1912 under architect Łazarz Rock. The building functioned as a prayer house for the community until World War II began in 1939.
The name refers to a society dedicated to regular Torah study, showing how this building served as a center for community learning and religious practice. Members gathered here to deepen their knowledge of sacred texts together.
This building is located between the High Synagogue and Old Synagogue in the Kazimierz district, easily explored on foot as part of a walking route. Since it now serves as residential apartments, you can view the facade from the street while respecting the privacy of residents.
The doorway still bears traces of an original mezuzah, a small Jewish religious object traditionally affixed to doorposts. These marks remind visitors of the daily spiritual practices that once took place here.
