Church of the Assumption of Mary in Koronowo

The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Koronowo is a brick basilica with three naves and a transept extending 72 meters in length. The structure also features two rows of side chapels that add to its architectural complexity.

Construction began in 1289 when Cistercian monks moved from Byszewo to Koronowo and first built the presbytery. The main body of the church was added subsequently, completing the major structure we see today.

The name comes from the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, a celebration deeply rooted in the local faith tradition. This church has long served as the spiritual center where the community gathers for worship and religious observances.

The church is open to visitors during standard hours, but it is important to be respectful of ongoing services and keep noise to a minimum. Visitors who want to explore freely should aim to arrive between services.

Inside are ten paintings from 1758 by Franciszek Remel that depict key moments from the monastery's past. These artworks provide a visual record of significant events that shaped the community.
