Nature Reserve Zimny Dół, Nature reserve in Czułów, Poland
Nature Reserve Zimny Dół is a small protected area in Czułów, Poland, covering the eastern slope of a ravine that opens toward the Sanka Valley. The ground is shaped by limestone formations, and the rocks form narrow passages that visitors walk through.
The area lies within the Tenczynek Hills and was separated from the main upland by the tectonic depression of the Krzeszowice Trench. This geological shift created the ravine and the limestone structures that define the reserve today.
The name Zimny Dół means "cold pit" in Polish and refers to the cool air that settles at the bottom of the ravine even in summer. Visitors can spot plant species there that normally grow much farther north or at higher elevations.
Access begins at the parking area near the church in Czułów, where a marked trail leads through the reserve. The ground is uneven and the rock passages are narrow, so sturdy footwear is a good idea.
An underground stream surfaces inside a cave within the reserve and flows through narrow gorges that look like small canyons. This karst feature formed as water slowly dissolved the limestone over time and is rarely seen in this form in the region.
