Nature reserve Śnieżycowy Jar, Nature reserve in Wielkopolska, Poland.
Śnieżycowy Jar is a nature reserve situated in a steep ravine where a small stream flows through the valley. The woodland contains a mix of tree species including red oak and field maple that grow in layers along the slopes.
The spring snowflake species was likely introduced to the area in the late 1800s and has grown wild here since then. Protection status was granted in 1975 to safeguard these plants and the woodland community.
The ravine takes its name from the spring snowflake flower that blooms here each spring and shapes the character of the valley. Visitors can observe how people move carefully across the wet meadows to avoid damaging the delicate blooms.
Access depends on the schedule of the nearby military training ground, as the area is sometimes used for exercises. The best visiting days are announced in spring when the flowers are at their peak.
The site uses a one-way pedestrian system during visiting periods to protect the fragile plants. This system allows many people to explore the valley at the same time without stepping on the flowers.
