Szkoła Zgromadzenia Kupców

Szkoła Zgromadzenia Kupców is a three-story concrete building with projecting sections and ornamental details showing Viennese Art Nouveau style. The structure originally held lecture halls, laboratories, and a library for educational purposes.

The Merchants Association started construction in 1909, and architects Gustaw Landau-Gutenteger and Piotr Brukalski completed it in 1911. It later became home to the University of Lodz administration and received heritage protection status in 1971.

The building served as a meeting place where different groups gathered for learning and social interaction. It represented the idea of combining education with community life in a single space.

The building is located in the downtown-east district and can be viewed from the street to see its architectural features. Access to the interior may be restricted, so visitors should check ahead if they wish to explore inside.

This building ranks among Poland's earliest concrete structures, blending Viennese Art Nouveau with modernist design elements. The combination of these two styles makes it a rare example of the region's architectural history.
