Rytro Castle

Rytro Castle is a medieval fortress ruin situated on a hilltop overlooking the Poprad River valley, marked by a cylindrical tower and defensive walls. The remnants show traces of a fortified residence with preserved wall sections that took advantage of the steep terrain and strategic positioning.

The fortress was built in the 13th century and served as a customs checkpoint for trade routes through the Poprad valley. It was visited by several Polish kings, including Casimir the Great and Władysław Jagiełło.

The stronghold reflects the architectural style of a medieval noble fortress in Lesser Poland and served as a residence for a local ruling family. It held significance in the region's power and administrative structures of its time.

The castle grounds are accessible during daytime hours and do not require admission. A parking area sits at the base of the hill, from where visitors walk up to reach the ruins.

Local folklore speaks of hidden treasures in underground passages beneath the fortress, allegedly guarded by a supernatural being. These mysterious tales continue to shape how people view the site today.
