Castle of the Masovian Dukes in Czersk, Medieval castle in Czersk, Poland

The Castle of the Masovian Dukes in Czersk is a Gothic fortress with three brick towers connected by defensive walls forming a triangle on a hill. The structure overlooks the Vistula River valley and displays typical medieval fortification techniques.

Construction of the fortress began in 1388 under Prince Janusz I of Mazovia on the remains of an older wooden castle from the 11th century. The structure became an important seat of ducal power and shaped regional history for centuries.

The castle serves as a venue for craft markets and performances where visitors can see traditional artisan techniques and local customs of the Masovia region. The stone walls and towers create an authentic backdrop for such gatherings.

Access to the interior is available year-round, with the main towers climbable for views of the surrounding landscape. It is recommended to wear sturdy footwear, as the staircases inside the towers are steep and narrow.

Queen Bona Sforza, an Italian princess, lived here as the wife of a Polish king, connecting this place to broader European history and diplomacy. The castle also links to the descendant of the last Anglo-Saxon king of England.
