Chobienia Castle, Renaissance castle in Chobienia, Poland.
Chobienia Castle is a Renaissance fortress in the center of Chobienia in western Poland. The structure consists of four wings surrounding an inner courtyard, with three round corner towers and a rectangular gate tower on the west side.
The site was first mentioned in 1209 as a Gothic fortress. The current Renaissance structure was built in 1583 by George von Kottwitz on the site of the earlier castle.
The interior features painted ceilings from the 1500s displaying family crests and coats of arms. These decorative details reflect the wealth and taste of the noble families who made the castle their home.
The castle stands in the center of Chobienia near the former market square on Parkowa Street. The location is difficult to reach by public transportation, so traveling by car is recommended.
In 1759 King Frederick II of Prussia visited the castle to see wounded soldiers after a military campaign. The king delivered an address to the troops there, giving the place historical significance.
