Kruszwica Castle

Kruszwica Castle is a fortress ruin centered on an octagonal tower that rises above Lake Goplo. The structure features preserved basement spaces and defensive walls from the original medieval complex built to command the surrounding landscape.

The fortress was built during the 14th century under King Casimir the Great to defend the region. It served as an important military stronghold until it eventually fell into decline and became a ruin over time.

The fortress demonstrates medieval military architecture and served as a regional defense stronghold. Visitors can observe how such structures functioned to protect settlements and control important waterways.

Access is provided via a wooden bridge and visitors can explore the restored basement areas. Wear comfortable shoes as the ground around the ruins can be uneven and requires careful walking.

The tower is known locally as the Mouse Tower, named after an old legend about a king and a mouse plague. This story has been part of the region's folklore for hundreds of years.
