Lesko Castle is a fortress rising steeply above the San River with distinctive Renaissance features. Thick stone walls and a cylindrical tower at one corner define its defensive design.
Construction began around 1538 under Marshal Piotr Kmita to strengthen the region's defenses. Major alterations followed, especially during the Swedish invasions of the 17th century.
For centuries, this fortress served as a gathering place where local nobility demonstrated their power and status. The rooms still show how they were designed to impress visitors and conduct important affairs.
Today the fortress operates as a hotel providing lodging in restored rooms throughout the building. Be aware that the site retains medieval and Renaissance architectural elements and includes steep approaches.
The oldest section contains original basement spaces with thick walls and vaulted ceilings supported by a central pillar. This structure reveals how builders worked in the 16th century.
