Stilo Lighthouse, Maritime beacon in Osetnik, Poland
Stilo Lighthouse is a tower of cast iron standing roughly 33 meters tall, built as a sixteen-sided pyramid with bands of black, white, and red painted around its body. The structure rests on a concrete base set into a sand dune covered with pine trees, and the whole assembly is held together by steel bolts visible when you look inside.
The tower was raised in 1906 using construction methods that were advanced for the time, with steel components bolted together in a way that remains visible inside. It was placed on a wooded dune and has guided ships along this section of coast for more than a century.
The lighthouse complex includes a keeper's house where generations of families maintain maritime navigation traditions along the Pomeranian coast of the Baltic Sea.
You can climb to the viewing platform during the summer months, and the stairs inside are narrow and steep, so wear shoes with a good grip. Once at the top, you get a wide view over the forest, the dunes, and the open Baltic waters.
The lantern sits 75 meters above sea level and throws its beam across about 43 kilometers of water. This makes it a key marker between the two neighboring towers along this stretch of shore.
