Stopień wodny Malczyce, Navigation lock on Odra River in Rzeczyca, Poland
Stopień wodny Malczyce is a navigation lock on the Odra River that allows vessels to pass through areas with different water levels. The facility features a flap weir with hydraulic operation, a 300-meter concrete structure, and a fish passage designed for aquatic species to migrate naturally.
Construction of this water facility took place between 1997 and 2018, representing one of the longest engineering projects along the Odra. Upon completion, it became a key structure for inland river traffic in the region.
This lock represents Polish engineering expertise in water management, contributing to the development of inland navigation infrastructure in Lower Silesia.
The shipping lock chamber measures 190 meters in length and 12 meters in width, accommodating vessels that need to pass through different water depths. The operation follows predictable schedules, making it easier to plan visits or passages.
A hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 11.4 megawatts operates at the site and generates electricity from the river's natural flow. This dual-purpose design combines navigation and renewable energy production in a single location.
