Eros Bendato

Eros Bendato is a 2.25-meter-tall bronze head sculpture lying on the pavement of the Market Square near the Town Hall Tower, depicted with a blindfolded face. Multiple openings in the sculpture allow visitors to look through and experience the artwork from different perspectives.

Polish artist Igor Mitoraj created this sculpture as part of a larger collection of monumental works he brought to the city. The donation marked a significant moment in the career of the internationally recognized sculptor.

The sculpture depicts Eros, the Greek god of love, with a blindfolded face that symbolizes the restraint of human desires and emotions. This representation invites visitors to reflect on the nature of love and longing.

The sculpture sits directly on the Market Square pavement and is easily accessible on foot without requiring any special routes. Visitors should take time to explore the different viewpoints and look through the openings to fully appreciate the work.

This work exists in three identical bronze copies distributed across different locations in Europe. The artist's decision to create multiple versions makes it a special example of his artistic practice.
