Portimão Circuit, automobile race course in Portimão, Portugal
The Portimão Circuit is a racing track in the Algarve region with a length of approximately 4.6 kilometers and a challenging, hilly layout with many turns. The site also features modern facilities including a five-star hotel, a karting track, and a technology park surrounding the racing surface.
The Portimão Circuit was designed and opened in 2008 by architect Ricardo Pina to create a track that offers both challenge and excitement for racers. International recognition came in 2020 when it hosted the Formula One Grand Prix of Portugal for the first time since 1996, bringing it into the global motorsport spotlight.
The circuit carries the name of the city of Portimão and has become a symbol of progress and international recognition for the local community. Racing events shape life in the region and bring together people from different countries who share their passion for motorsport.
The site is easy to explore on foot and offers clear pathways around the track as well as grandstands with good views of different corners. There are restaurants and rest areas throughout the grounds, allowing visitors to remain comfortable during their time there.
The grounds feature a distinctive monument made of marble and stainless steel that represents the finishing corner and serves as an iconic spot where race-deciding moments often occur. A corner is named after Craig Jones, a motorcycle rider who died tragically in 2008, honoring his contribution to motorsport in this way.
