Obedska bara, Natural reserve in Vojvodina, Serbia.
Obedska bara is a wetland reserve in Vojvodina that covers 17,501 hectares along the Sava River. The landscape includes marshes, shallow ponds, wet meadows, an oxbow lake, and extensive reedbeds mixed with old oak groves.
The area was recognized in the 1800s as a major bird habitat and became Serbia's first Ramsar site in 1977. This designation established it as a model for wetland protection across the region and beyond.
The site serves as a hub for environmental learning and regional research communities interested in wetland protection. Visitors encounter active education programs and research activities that shape how locals understand water habitats and their value.
Two marked trails are available: a 7-kilometer loop and a 5-kilometer waterside path for different experience preferences. Observation towers are positioned throughout to help visitors spot animals and birds comfortably.
White-tailed eagles, black storks, and beavers live here in significant numbers among the ancient oak forests. This combination of water and forest habitat is rare across the continent and rarely seen elsewhere.
