Forteresse de Kupinik

The Kupinik Fortress is a ruined medieval stronghold in Kupinovo featuring a square layout measuring approximately 57 meters per side. Circular towers stand at each corner, forming part of the original defensive system with connected walls.

The fortress was built between the late 1200s and early 1300s under Hungarian rule. Serbian despots later took control and modified its structure by adding hexagonal and octagonal towers.

This fortification served as a seat of power and protection for the surrounding region's inhabitants. It reflects how rulers of the time used monumental structures to display control and authority over their lands.

The ruins sit near a bend in the Save River close to a protected wetland area. Access is straightforward via Branka Madžarevića street in Kupinovo, which leads directly to the site.

Archaeological digs uncovered a defensive moat that encircled the entire complex. This moat ran about 3 meters deep and 17 meters wide, revealing the careful planning that went into the fortress's protection.
