Labudovo okno, Protected wetland in Vojvodina, Serbia
The 3,733-hectare wetland area stretches along the Danube River, featuring floodplains, marshes, and river shallows at the southern margin of the Pannonian Plain.
The construction of Iron Gate reservoir in the late 1960s altered the Danube water levels, transforming the landscape into new aquatic habitats for diverse wildlife.
The area surrounding Labudovo okno contains communities of Serbs, Romanians, Hungarians, Roma, and Slovaks, contributing to the regional multicultural character.
Visitors can observe over 250 bird species throughout the year, with winter populations reaching 80,000 birds across the protected wetland territory.
The site provides spawning grounds for fifty fish species and serves as a critical winter refuge for waterfowl, including pygmy cormorants and white-fronted geese.
