Crkva svetog Preobraženja, Eastern Orthodox church in Pančevo, Serbia.
The Church of the Holy Transfiguration is an Eastern Orthodox church in Pančevo with two prominent towers and a central dome. The structure combines Byzantine elements with Romanesque and Gothic details throughout its exterior and interior design.
The building was constructed in 1873 under architect Svetozar Ivačković and replaced a temporary chapel that had served the community since 1798. After losing its original bells in 1916, the church received new ones in 1925.
The building holds a collection of around 15,000 books and displays religious artworks created by regional artists in its interior spaces. These works reflect the spiritual traditions of the Serbian Orthodox community.
The church is located on Dimitrija Tucovića Street and is served by bus lines 9, 22, and 24, with the nearest stop about 75 meters away. Visitors should plan to arrive during daylight hours to fully appreciate the architectural details and artwork inside.
The church lost its original bells during wartime but received new ones in 1925 that still ring today. These replacement bells tell a story of rebuilding and continuity through difficult periods in the community's history.
