Kronotsky Nature Reserve

Kronotsky Nature Reserve spans the eastern coast and contains a dramatic landscape of volcanoes, thermal lakes, and hot springs. This remote region features dense forests and river valleys that stretch across thousands of square kilometers.

The area received official protection status in 1934, though people began safeguarding the wildlife there from 1882. This long tradition of guardianship established the foundation for what is now one of the most important nature reserves.

The reserve is home to brown bears, salmon, and rare bird species that live across its varied landscapes. Visitors can observe this wildlife in their natural setting and understand why this territory matters for protecting nature.

Visiting requires advance registration and is only possible with organized tours due to the remote location. The best time to visit is between June and September, when weather conditions are more stable and access is more reliable.

A special feature is the Valley of Geysers, where dozens of active hot springs regularly shoot water into the air. This geyser field represents one of the largest such systems outside Iceland and captivates through its natural power and regularity.
