Chertolino estate covers a vast expanse that includes about 30 neighboring villages in the western part of Rzhev district in Tver Oblast. Four rivers flow through the property, creating water bodies that eventually feed into the Volga River system.
The estate passed to the Ignatiev family of counts and high-ranking officials beginning in the 1750s. The main manor house was demolished in 1950, marking the end of nearly 200 years of family stewardship.
Two churches of stone and brick built in the late 1800s by architect V.I. Kuzmin stand on the grounds at different locations. They reflect the religious importance the estate owners placed on their property.
