Bshad sgrub gling, Buddhist monastery in Mount Kachkanar, Russia.
Bshad sgrub gling is a monastery located at 843 meters elevation on the northeastern slope of Mount Kachkanar, overlooking steep cliffs and rock faces. The complex spreads across multiple levels of the mountainside and blends with the natural terrain.
Lama Sanie Tenzin Dokshit founded the monastery in 1995 following his teacher Pema Jang's guidance regarding its location and name. Over decades of development, it became a center for meditation and learning in the region.
The monastery maintains Gelug and Kagyu practices that visitors can observe through daily meditation sessions and ritual activities. The monks continue their teachings in this remote mountain setting.
Reaching the monastery requires hiking uphill for about 12 kilometers with significant physical effort and proper mountain gear. The best visiting season is during warmer months when the trails are accessible.
In 2022, the monastery complex was significantly reduced in size when operations from the adjacent Kachkanar Mining Complex expanded on the same mountain. Only the religious structures remained standing following an agreement negotiated with local authorities.
