Церковь Уверения Апостола Фомы

The Church of the Apostle Thomas is an Orthodox church located by Lake Myachino in Veliky Novgorod, constructed from stone. The structure has a square layout with four supporting pillars, three apses, and narrow window openings, along with decorative stone crosses adorning its western facade.

An original temple stood on this site in 1195, but the current structure was built in 1463 upon its foundation. The building suffered severe damage from a raid by Ivan the Terrible and later destruction during the 20th century.

The building reflects medieval construction methods common in the Pskov-Novgorod region, with its distinctive stone crosses and narrow window openings that shaped the local architectural identity. This design approach appears repeatedly across other religious structures in the area.

The building lies outside the city walls and remains closed to visitors due to its deteriorated condition, viewable only from the exterior. The approach involves walking through rural terrain, so proper footwear is advisable for a visit.

The church walls contain recycled materials from the 1195 structure, including limestone slabs and thin bricks. This practice of reusing materials was typical when buildings were reconstructed using remnants from older structures.
