White Tower, Velikiy Novgorod

The White Tower is a medieval defensive structure in Veliky Novgorod, Russia, with solid stone walls standing about 15 meters tall. It features the characteristic military design of its era with sturdy construction meant to withstand attacks.

The tower was built in the second half of the 15th century as part of Novgorod's defensive network during a period of territorial growth. Over the centuries it survived many conflicts, including occupation during World War II.

The White Tower is also called the Alekseevskaya Tower and represents how the city built its medieval defenses. Walking around it today, you can see how it was designed to fit within the larger fortification system.

The tower is located on Troitskaya Street and remains accessible year-round for visitors. It helps to wear comfortable shoes since the area has cobblestone paving and the structure itself contains old stairs.
