Don Falls is a waterfall system with multiple cascades located within a former quarry near Uglerodovsky village. The two main formations are the 10-meter high Two Tears cascade and the Braids waterfall, both situated in this abandoned mining site.
The waterfall system formed naturally in the Zamchalovsky quarry area after mining activities ceased. The cascades developed within the abandoned extraction site over time as water flow shaped the stone formations.
Local inhabitants maintain traditions of nature preservation, requesting official natural monument status for these falls within the Rostov region.
The falls are accessible via hiking trails near Uglerodovsky settlement, with spring offering the best water flow conditions. During this season, snowmelt from surrounding areas increases the volume in the cascades significantly.
These cascades appear unexpectedly across the steppe landscape, where flat terrain and rolling hills typically dominate the scenery. This surprise reveals how abandonment of quarrying left behind something the region had never naturally produced.
